Quotes from one of the most powerful books- The Shack

By Judy Croon · Canada's Keynote Humourist · August 5, 2011

If you’ve never read The Shack before, I highly advise it. If you believe there is something bigger than yourself, check it out. Whatever your God is, this book is life changing. For me, I found a lot of peace in answers to questions that we, as mere mortals, have. I have a lot of friends and family members right now who are struggling. I hope this offers you some solace, as it has for me, so many times.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from The Shack by WM. Paul Young.

On love and being heard

“Ive been talking to you for a long time but today was the first time you could hear it, and all those time weren’t a waste either.”- The Shack

That’s all I ask of you. When you start to sink, let me rescue you.

So when you don’t hear me the first time, I’m not frustrated or disappointed. I’m thrilled. Only 46 more times to go. And that first time will be a building block to construct a bridge of healing that one day-that today- you will walk across.

yup, I love that boy. Papa looked away and shook her head. “ Everything’s about him, you know. One day, you folks will understand what he gave up. There are just no words.”-

It’s not the nature of love to force a relationship but it is the nature of love to open the way.

Paradigms power perception and perceptions power emotions.

You can kiss you family and friends goodbye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you. – Frederick Buechner.

An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others.- AW Tozer

On grief and forgiveness

These next ones are the ones I come back to when forgiving someone feels impossible.

I did not purpose Missy’s death, but that doesn’t mean I can’t use it for good.

Forgiveness is not about forgetting. It’s about letting go of another person’s throat.

Nature finds more power in love and forgiveness than hate

You may have to declare your forgiveness a hundred times the first day and the second day, but the third day will be less and each day after, until one day you will realize that you have forgiven completely

If anything matters then everything matters

He loves larger than most, is quick to forgive, and even quicker to ask for forgiveness

The darkness hides the true size of fears and lies and regrets. The truth is there is more shadow than reality so they seemer bigger in the dark.
